EVENT DETAILS AND PROGRAM FOR FEDERATION SQUARE AND RIVERSIDE TERRACE SHOWS
Over 60,000 visitors attended the Thai Culture and Food Festival in Melbourne in March 2010 - now it's Brisbane's chance to experience the sights, sounds, tastes and aromas of Thailand in one day on Sunday 3 October 2010 from 10am till 8pm at the Cultural Forecourt at the Parklands, South Bank, Brisbane.
The Festival will start at 10am with the colourful traditional Buddhist blessing with Thai monks from local Thai Buddhist temples including a Dharma talk at 11am and holy water blessing.
This will be followed by the opening celebrations starting at 11.25am till 12.10pm including the traditional Thai long drum parade through the Cultural Forecourt at the Parklands, South Bank Brisbane, alongside the Brisbane River, a special welcome dance performance and the official opening with the VIP guests, The Deputy Lord Mayor of Brisbane; His Excellency, The Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, and also the Honorary Thai Consul General.
The Cultural Forecourt will be transformed into a haven of Thai culture to allow the people of Brisbane to Find out more about Thai Tourism; have a Thai massage or slow down the pace with a visit to the Thai Temple area - there will be plenty to do and see; as well delight your taste buds with 15 Thai dessert and food stalls serving mouth watering Thai food featuring regional delicaies at $8 per dish or less and enjoy a Singha beer in the Singha Beer Garden.
The Cultural Forecourt stage will have continuous entertainment with Thai traditional dance shows featuring the "Siam Classic Dance Studio" Thai Dance Group -direct from Sydney ; Thai videos; and the inaugural "Miss Thai Festival 2010" Thai Beauty competition, and Muay Thai kick boxing demonstration.
In case you want to know more about Thai cooking visit the the interactive live Thai cooking demonstrations throughout the day in the Cultural Forecourt commencing 1pm and every half hour thereafter.
And there will be numerous Thai arts, crafts and handicrafts stalls where you can buy a small piece of Thailand!
Roving guides in Traditional Thai outfits will be on hand to provide information about the activities and about Thailand. After 5pm enjoy live bands featuring upcoming Australian and Thai artists and the amazing traditional Thai Tiffany review show from Melbourne on the Singha Beer Stage.
The festival will close at 8pm ( though food stalls may run out earlier!). Program details ( subject to change):
